Remote Bilateral Stimulation: How Therapists and Clients Control Wevana Tabs Together

A remote bilateral stimulation session has two people in it and one pair of Tabs between them. Our wireless Tabs allow this to be just a few feet away or anywhere in the world. The therapist needs control. The client needs to not think about the technology at all. at Wevana, we wanted to make this possible anywhere across the globe.

That is the whole design. The free Wevana Provider Portal or app gives the therapist the dial. The Wevana app gives the client everything else. Here is how both sides work, what each person needs to do, and how to pay for Tabs with HSA or FSA dollars.

What are Wevana Tabs?

Wevana Tabs are wireless, handheld bilateral stimulation devices, often referred to as EMDR tappers, EMDR tabs, or Wevana Tabs. They sit in the client's palms and deliver alternating rhythmic vibrations, left, right, left, right, engaging both the left and right hemispheres of the brain. This practice that is used in your EMDR session, now delivered from your home through Telehealth.

Tabs are $249, and they are HSA and FSA eligible. They arrive in a charging case and pair over Bluetooth automatically. They also run manually, with no app at all, which matters more than it sounds like it does. More on that below.

How a remote session actually works in office, or through telehealth

Four steps, and only one of them belongs to the client.

  1. The therapist generates a unique session code in the Provider Portal or the Wevana App.
  2. The client enters that code by tapping the icon in the upper left corner of the Wevana app and selecting to enter the code.
  3. The Clients Tabs pair instantly to the therapist's portal or App controls.
  4. The therapist adjusts speed, intensity, and pattern in real time, mid-set, from their own browser.

The client's phone can go face down on the arm of the chair after step two. They never look at it again. That is the point: eyes where they need to be, hands holding the Tabs, no fumbling with a screen in the middle of processing.

For therapists: setting up the Provider Portal

The Wevana Provider Portal is a free remote bilateral stimulation portal for EMDR therapists. Entirely web based. No download, no install, no subscription, no paid tier waiting for you later.

What you control, live, during session:

  • Tactile, the Tabs themselves, speed and intensity adjusted mid-set
  • Visual, including color patterns and direction that will match the Tabs vibrations
  • Auditory, for clients who respond better to sound and the Tabs vibrations
  • Timing, set count, direction and other custom settings, changed on the fly as you read the room

Note that tactile is the Tabs. You are not choosing between the device and a modality. You are choosing which channels to run, alone or together.

Running it alongside your existing setup. The portal is built to sit next to the platforms you already work in, including Zoom, SimplePractice, Doxy, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and TheraNest. You keep your video window. The portal lives in another tab.

Groups and workshops. Share one session code and control multiple sets of Tabs at once. Everyone in the room, or on the call, receives the same stimulation, adjusted by you. This is the piece that makes group processing practical rather than theoretical.

Telehealth and in person. The portal does not care which. Some therapists use it with clients three states away. Others use it with a client in the next chair, simply because holding the dial themselves is a better clinical practice than asking a client to adjust their own intensity mid-set.

More than 3,000 therapists use Wevana. The portal is free for all of them, including you.

Set up your Provider Portal

Yes, EMDR can be done virtually

The most common question we get from providers is whether EMDR remote therapy genuinely works, or whether telehealth means giving up bilateral stimulation and improvising with the butterfly hug.

It does not. Your client holds their own Tabs at home. You hold the controls. The stimulation is identical to what you would deliver in your office, because it is the same device running the same session, just driven from a browser instead of a table.

Tell your clients about HSA and FSA

Cost is the objection that ends most of these conversations early, and it is usually based on bad information. Our Wevana Tabs are HSA and FSA eligible, and most clients have no idea a tool like this qualifies. Mentioning it once, in session, is often the difference between a client who owns Tabs and a client who meant to look into it. The details are below, and they are worth passing along verbatim.

For clients: what you do on your side

Your part is short.

Before the first session:

  1. Charge your Tabs in their case.
  2. Download the free Wevana app on iOS or Android.
  3. Take the Tabs out of the case, open the app, and accept the pairing prompt when it appears. There is no manual Bluetooth setup to wrestle with.

During the session:

Your therapist gives you a code. Tap the icon in the upper left hand corner on your Wevana app home screen. Select to enter the code and type it in. That is it. Put the phone down, pick up the Tabs, and let them drive.

If something feels wrong, just let your therapist know. Too fast, too strong, too much. Your therapist changes it in a second without either of you breaking the thread.

Your therapist cannot see anything except your Tabs. The portal or Wevana App controls the device. It is not watching your phone, your camera, or your app history.

Between sessions: the app is yours

This is where the app stops being a pairing step and starts being a practice.

The Wevana app allows you to have all of the settings on your own, you control:

  • Speed and intensity, set wherever you want them
  • Patterns and profile presets, so your setup is one tap away
  • Audio bilateral stimulation, plus lights-off and vibration-off toggles, so you can run tactile only, audio only, or any mix
  • A session timer that auto-stops, and a live cycle count
  • Heart rate connect to wearables like Whoop, OURA, or Apple Health to see heart rate and HRV data, and use your Touchstone log anytime.

It also includes therapist-led video sessions built on EMDR principles. Short, structured, and useful when you want guidance instead of a blank screen.

What people actually reach for it for:

  • Stress and feelings of anxiety, especially in the ten minutes before something hard
  • Focus and brain fog, clearing the static naturally rather than reaching for another coffee
  • Sleep, a slow low-intensity session to fall asleep faster
  • Public speaking and meetings, before the thing you have been rehearsing all day
  • Continuing the work, on the days between appointments

Tabs are pocket-sized. They are quiet enough to run under a desk and small enough that nobody in the room knows. That portability is most of why a portable stress relief tool actually gets used, rather than living in a drawer.

Bilateral stimulation is calming for a reason that is easier to feel than explain. The steady left-right rhythm gives your attention while the rest of your the system settles.

Use your HSA or FSA to buy Wevana Tabs

Wevana Tabs are HSA and FSA eligible. For a lot of people this is the detail that turns $249 into money they have already set aside.

Here is the whole process:

  1. Add Tabs to your cart and go to checkout.
  2. Select Flex, the HSA/FSA payment option, from the payment methods.
  3. Follow the steps Flex walks you through to finalize. If a Letter of Medical Necessity is required, a licensed clinician handles it right there in a short chat-based consultation. You do not have to chase your own doctor for paperwork.
  4. Pay with your HSA or FSA card. You can also split the payment, or pay with a regular card and let Flex email you an itemized receipt to submit to your administrator for reimbursement.

Two things worth knowing. FSA dollars usually expire at the end of the plan year, so if you have a balance sitting there in November or December, this is a good use of it. And if you are a therapist reading this, telling clients that Tabs are HSA and FSA eligible removes the single most common reason they put off buying.
